Online Courses

Dr. Rudolph has been designing and authoring online courses since 2007. His first course was a Sibelius Music Notation course for Berklee Online. Since then, he has authored and co-authored a range of courses for Berklee Online, Rutgers University, Central Connecticut State University, and VanderCook College of Music, focusing on music notation software, technology integration, digital media for music educators, and music history.

His work reflects a commitment to practical pedagogy, clear instructional design, and the effective use of technology to support musicians, teachers, and students at all levels. He has also assisted and consulted with Berklee Online on course development and collaborated with VanderCook MECA faculty, including Vince Leonard, Stefani Langol, and Michael Fein, on course development. A list of his current online courses are below:

Online Courses:

Music Notation and Score Preparation Using Dorico Pro
An in-depth online course taught through Berklee Online that guides musicians through professional music engraving using Dorico Pro. The course emphasizes clear, efficient workflows for creating polished scores and parts, covering everything from notation fundamentals and MIDI entry to advanced layout, formatting, and instrument-specific conventions. Designed for composers, arrangers, and educators, the course helps students develop both technical fluency and musical judgment in preparing scores ready for rehearsal, performance, and publication.

Music History of the Western World 1: Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque

This Berklee course traces the development of Western art music from its earliest liturgical roots through the expressive innovations of the Baroque era. Students explore key composers, genres, and cultural forces that shaped music—from Gregorian chant and polyphony to early opera and instrumental forms—deepening their understanding of how historical context influenced musical style and practice.

Music Notation and Score Preparation using Sibelius Ultimate
This online Berklee course teaches professional score creation with Sibelius Ultimate. Through hands-on lessons, students learn efficient notation entry, editing, and formatting to produce lead sheets, choral and instrumental scores, drum maps, guitar parts, and more—all conforming to current music publishing standards. By the end of the course, learners become confident, independent users of Sibelius with the skills to prepare and share polished scores for rehearsal, performance, or publication.

Music History of the Western World 2: Classical, Romantic, and Modern

This Berklee course explores the evolution of Western art music from the Age of Enlightenment through the 20th century. You’ll study major composers and styles—from Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven in the Classical era to the emotional breadth of the Romantic period and the innovations of modern music—gaining insight into how musical forms, cultural currents, and historical contexts shaped the sounds we know today.

Integrating Technology into the Music Curriculum

This course, developed for Rutgers University, focuses on developing practical strategies for integrating technology into K–12 music teaching and learning, with connections to national music standards. Participants learn to use music notation software to prepare instructional materials and design student-centered notation activities, apply audio editing tools to create and manipulate files for practice and demonstration, and explore software and cloud-based resources for music instruction.

Logic Pro: The Next Steps After Garage Band
Co-authored with Vince Leonard for VanderCook MECA.. This course explores how music educators can use the iPad as a powerful instructional and assessment tool. Focusing on GarageBand and iMovie for iPad, participants learn to record, edit, and create audio and video projects, document ensemble performance, and use screencasting to support student learning. The course also covers practical workflows for storing and sharing media in the cloud, making it well suited for both individual and 1:1 iPad classroom settings.
