About Dr. Tom Rudolph:

Dr. Tom Rudolph is an adjunct instructor for Berklee College of Music’s Online School and the Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. He has authored multiple online courses in music technology and music history. His Berklee Online courses include Music History of the Western World 1: Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque; Music History of the Western World 2: Classical, Romantic, and Modern; Music Notation and Score Preparation Using Dorico Pro; and Music Notation and Score Preparation Using Sibelius Ultimate. He has also authored and taught online courses for institutions including VanderCook College of Music and Central Connecticut State University.

Dr. Rudolph earned a double degree in Music Performance and Music Education from Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts in 1977. He completed a Master of Music degree with a concentration in Music History at West Chester University in 1983 and earned a Doctorate in Adult Learning from Widener University in 1992. 

As a trumpet player, Dr. Rudolph has performed professionally for more than five decades in the Philadelphia area in both classical and commercial settings. His compositions and arrangements are published by Neil A. Kjos Music Company and Carl Fischer Music.

Dr. Rudolph is widely recognized for his contributions to music technology education. He began presenting clinics and workshops in the field in the early 1980s and has since authored numerous books, including The Musical iPad, The iPad in the Music Studio, Finale: An Easy Guide to Music Notation (Third Edition), Sibelius: A Comprehensive Guide to Sibelius Music Notation Software (Second Edition), Teaching Music With Technology (Second Edition), Recording in the Digital World, YouTube in Music Education, and Finding Funds for Music Technology. He was also a co-author of the TI:ME publication Technology Strategies for Music Education and the Alfred Music Tech Series, which includes Playing Keyboard, Music Production and MIDI Sequencing, and Composing with Notation Software.

His articles have appeared in Music Educators Journal, The Instrumentalist, Jazz Educators Journal, and DownBeat. Dr. Rudolph has consulted with numerous music and technology companies, including Apple, Korg, SoundTree, Roland, and Bose Corporation. In 1995, he was one of the founders of the Technology in Music Education (TI:ME) and served as the president of the organization from 2000-2009. He was twice recognized by the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) New England Chapter and received the 2016 Continuing Education Faculty Award.

Tom was the Director of Music for Haverford School District from 1983-2012. He started the annual evening of jazz concerts that now is in its fourth decade.
